YOUR Police Federation Road Traffic Accident Legal Assistance Service

Road Traffic Accidents happen, and when they do your Federation membership ensures you have access to the very best available advice, support and representation – for free.

Over many years of working with Police Federation members our dedicated lawyers have gained a wealth of practical experience of representing RTA victims. They have detailed knowledge of the police service, including police pay structure, pensions, promotion prospects and issues related to medical retirement.

Police Federation Road Traffic Accident Legal Assistance Service is provided by the Federation in conjunction with Pattinson & Brewer and as a benefit of your Federation membership. It covers you and your family members.

What is the Police Federation Road Traffic Accident Legal Assistance Service?

The Legal Assistance Service is a telephone and on-line based service provided as part of your Federation membership, which members and their family can access to start a claim for any RTA personal injury accident free of charge.

Why have we launched the Police Federation Road Traffic Accident Legal Assistance Service?

The government has made changes to the claims process for some low value road traffic accident claims, which mean that from 31 May 2021 onwards certain claims will be submitted via a small claims portal. The effect of these changes is that many victims of road traffic accidents will have to navigate the claims process without the benefit of legal advice and representation.

The Federation has launched this Legal Assistance Service to ensure that all Federation members and their families will benefit from advice and representation irrespective of the value of their claim. All RTA claims should be logged via this Legal Assistance Service and our expert lawyers will act for you for free, and you will receive 100% of your compensation.

Who provides the Police Federation Road Traffic Accident Legal Assistance Service, and what does it cover?

The Police Federation works in partnership with Pattinson & Brewer to provide this service for members of the Federation and their families. Pattinson & Brewer was established in 1890, and has acted for accident victims for over 130 years, including for Police Federation members for almost 40 years. The service covers you for injuries sustained during Road Traffic Accidents both on and off duty, this includes members of your family injured in the same or separate incidents.

How do I start a claim?

If you have suffered an injury, either on or off duty you should call the Police Federation Road Traffic Accident Legal Assistance Service and one of our advice team will take down the details and verify with the Branch Board that you’re a contributing member of the Federation. One of our lawyers will be appointed to represent you. Your claim will be handled quickly and efficiently.

How much will I be charged?

You will retain 100% of the damages we recover on your behalf. Most lawyers will charge up to 25% of a client’s damages if they bring a claim for injuries caused by other people’s negligence. By way of example if the damages awarded were £10,000 then you may only receive £7,500, through the Police Federation Road Traffic Accident Legal Assistance Service you would receive the full £10,000.
